This isn't the first episode in Bravo's new Secret Crush series that involves a hidden crush between friends. Jared is ready to confess to his feelings for his friend Shyam ... and he's worried that he may lose a great friendship in the process. That's a common concern of people who are in this situation, but it's important to be honest with yourself about your feelings, advises Alex Williamson el-Effendi, head of brand at Bumble.
"Every situation is different, but honesty is always the best approach. Be honest with yourself about your feelings. If you feel like you have a crush on a friend and you just try to suppress your feelings, that doesn’t mean they will go away. It will potentially ruin a friendship if you bottle up your emotions and eventually explode in front of your crush."
Watch the video above and see how the confession takes place. And remember, if you're in this situation yourself, "it often takes being friends first to build the foundation and rapport you need to have a great long-lasting relationship," says Erika Ettin, online dating coach and founder of A Little Nudge. "Rather than thinking about revealing your feelings potentially ruining a friendship, instead think about what you can gain if your friend feels the same. Remember that you miss every shot you don't take."
